About

Uthra Umashanker

Between Thoughts was founded by Uthra Umashanker, a licensed clinical psychologist with training in both the United States and India. She completed her undergraduate studies at Boston University and went on to pursue her postgraduate degree and M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology in India. Her diverse training background informs a culturally sensitive and integrative approach to mental health care.

At the core of her work is a deep belief that the therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful change. Healing begins with feeling seen, heard, and understood. With this in mind, Between Thoughts is committed to creating a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences with openness and trust.

The approach at Between Thoughts is person-centered and collaborative, with each therapy journey tailored to the individual’s unique needs, pace, and goals. Rather than a one-size-fits-all model, therapy here honors the complexity of each person’s story. Sessions invite reflection, curiosity, and gentle exploration, helping clients make sense of patterns, navigate emotional difficulties, and move toward greater clarity and balance.

Therapy at Between Thoughts is not about rushing change or offering quick solutions. It is a thoughtful process that values self-awareness, emotional safety, and steady growth. Whether someone is coming to therapy during a period of distress or seeking deeper self-understanding, the work unfolds in a way that feels supportive, respectful, and grounded.

At its heart, Between Thoughts is a space to pause — to sit with your inner world, untangle what feels overwhelming, and begin building a more compassionate relationship with yourself.
